The world beyond the Maze flickered on a massive screen – cities in ruin, fire licking at the sky.

Then Gally appeared, eyes wild, his face twisted with rage. He had followed them, but not to escape. He was convinced Thomas had doomed them all. Shaking, he raised a knife – and threw it.

Chuck, the youngest among them, the one who had always laughed, always believed, stepped into its path.

Before grief could take hold, an alarm blared. Lights flashed. And then – voices. Real voices.
